Hair coloring Tutorial by FireEagleSpirit Hair coloring Tutorial by FireEagleSpirit
Sort of a tutorial I made about hair coloring... since a friend requested it and some people have asked me tips and what programs I use, etc... so here is it.

Then you ask me why I choose Aquila as the model if she has crazy red hair? Simply because I think there is already plenty of tutorials with more "common" or traditional hair types out there

Hope you like it, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask... I'm not used to design those kind of stuff.. if it helps a bit I'm happy lol

I did it in the same style as my ID
Phoenix brushes: www.52photoshop.cn/down6079
Feather brushes: risingheart.deviantart.com/art…
Arcane brushes: www.obsidiandawn.com/arcane-ci…
Evanescence font: www.dafont.com/evanescence.fon…

This tutorial is amazing o: But i have just one question if you dont mind. For each shade/highlight you do, Do you do it on one layer only or multiple layers? D: Because ive tried doing it on one only and it doesn't look right.

Thanks a lot!

It depends, in SAI when I use multiple layers it helps achieving definition, since the colors won't blend with the ones under in another layers.... so if you want very definite strands make another layers, and when you want it more soft just draw in the same layer as the main "body" of the hair...

I hope this helps ^^ and yes, generally I use various layers, it is hard to draw hair in only one

They won't punish you for it, only when big companies do it for commercial use.
And if they do, then i'll pay you out of jail, doesn't that sound lovely?

I have a Mac, and I constantly have to boot into my painfully slow Windows partition to draw... there's no SAI for Mac :(

Mac is actually pretty easy when you get used to it, but it is awesome. The only downside is: No SAI on mac :(

You lost me at "Hello". Haha.

I can't even comprehend the use of layers, but it's why I have utmost admiration for those that do - like you!
Then again, I suppose I don't have an incentive to since I don't even own a tablet. So I'll just stick to my traditional mediums getting slaughtered by the scanner. x3

Nevertheless, I'm always appreciative of tutorials likes these, it's sincerely fascinating to see your stunning concepts being developed step by informative step like that. I can't stand artists that are like "NOPE. IT'S A SECRET." Like, how are novices suppose to learn with an outlook like that? Afraid one will create better works of art?

It takes selfless compassion and patience to plan tutorials of any kind, and yours especially had diligent attention paid to it. Thank you! ^o^

Omhwww I don't know if I can take all this cuteness overload :iconicameplz:

You should try dear, with your talent, you would make wonders! I feel so used to digital I don't even remember how to draw on paper anymore (just kidding, but it's half true) and don't tell me, I still hold a deep hatred towards my scanner, it just love to ruin my stuff

I wont lie, I had a lot of dificulties at the begining, but just with a bit of practice I'm sure you will get used to the layer system and everything that comes with it ;p You just have to be curious and play with it a bit

And I' don't even know what to say about what you mentioned here on tutorials... so sweet, dear! I just feel so flattered, thank you so much! :tighthug:

That aspect of "sharing" art provides is just one of the stuff I love most about it
